Anti depressants and anxiety?

Just wondering if any one had any advice re meds. I have a trip to my doctors on Monday and am not really sure what to ask for.

Could anyone recommend something that helped them with depression, anxiety (obviously) and sleeping?

I'm not diagnosed with anything apart from depression and possible PTSD.

For this I've been on prozac before, which made my anxiety symptoms worse and didn't make much difference to my mood in my opinion.

Citalopram, which once again, didn't seem to make a great deal of difference but further disrupted my sleep and possibly made me even more withdrawn.

Propranolol, just as a side order to help with physical aspects of anxiety, which does work to some level, but I'm not sure how it will mix if I ask for certain meds?

(And I've only really ever been PRESCRIBED melatonin for sleeping, which obviously doesn't make a great deal of difference.)

Umm we can't give you advice on what you SHOULD take just say what our experiences were with things and how they helped or didn't help.

I would discuss a few options with your doctor. On this link www.crazymeds.us they have a list of antidepressants and a write up on each that can give you some ideas to target what you are having issues with. Remember they might be the experts but having some you know a bit about and like the sound of is helpful too.

I have found remeron (Mirtazipine to work immediately but to have a bit of a poop out after a couple months... and I take seroquel and citalopram and that was the best i've ever found that worked for me. paxil was horrible! The withdrawal was brutal!

Good luck!

I think you should go in with an open mind and discuss with the doc about the choice of anti depressants there is... some are prescribed for different levels/types of depression, so it's worth asking your doc what he would suggest.

I'm on propranolol for anxiety, and I have to say that it has worked very well for me - when I tried to taper off it I started having cluster attacks again, which left me really uncomfortable and depressed. I've found that the doseage generally has to be quite high in order to have an effect.

Again, ask your doc about your anxiety, and if he can try you on anything. Docs rarely agree to prescribe things like diazepam on a longer term basis (ie. more than a few days), but if I remember correctly the AD Sertraline is meant to be good for high levels of anxiety.
