Self injury, while not exclusive to young people, seems to take place mainly between the ages of 11-25. As young people spend so much of their time at school it seems useful for schools, teachers and governers to understand self injury and what can be done about it in school. A useful publication for you to read is our Schools and Self Injury Policy and Guidlines document, adapted from the LifeSIGNS charity publication by Mary Hillery. Colorado Department of Education's Self Injury Handout is a useful resource giving teachers an insight into self harm in schools. A search for self harm on their website (click here for the search results page) also throws up a range of links that might be useful for those working in education.
